Genre regulars Kyle Gallner (Red, The Haunting in Connecticut, Jennifer’s Body, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Red State, The Walking Dead, The Cleanse, Alien Code, Ghosts of War, Scream, Smile, etc.) and Holland Roden (whose credits include Teen Wolf, Lore, Channel Zero, Cry of Fear, House of Dust, Escape Room: Tournament of Champions, Ted Bundy: American Boogeyman, and Obsessed to Death) star in the horror psychological thriller Mother, May I?, which will be receiving a theatrical and VOD release from Dark Sky Films this Friday, July 21st. With that date just a few days away, we’ve gotten our hands on the trailer for the film, and you can check it out in the embed above.
The feature writing and directing debut of Laurence Vannicelli, Mother, May I? has the following synopsis: Emmett wants to clean and flip his recently deceased mother’s house: get in, get out, and avoid any trauma still lingering from when she abandoned him as a young child. Anya, his fiancé, see’s this as an opportunity to finally force Emmett to deal with his trauma because she believes it is preventing him from being the partner she needs. So she convinces him to take mushrooms to get him to let go. But something strange happens while they’re tripping: she starts behaving like his mother. The next morning he wakes up sober, but she still won’t drop the act… Anya loves playing games – is this her taking it too far? Or did his mother’s spirit somehow possess her?
Gallner and Roden are joined in the cast by Chris Mulkey (Cloverfield), Michael Giannone (Don’t Look Up), and Daphne Gaines (Inside Game).
Roden produced Mother, May I? with Dane Eckerle, Daniel Brandt, Daisy Long, and Cole Eckerle. Sam Slater, Paul Bernon, and Phil Keefe of Burn Later Productions serve as executive producers with Raj Trivedi and Alex Whitney.
Dark Sky Films’ EVP Greg Newman had this to say about Mother, May I?: “Laurence Vannicelli and his team have crafted a true original by tying together supernatural elements to create an unforgettable film. Combined with a standout cast, Mother, May I? pushes boundaries and is filled with edge and emotion. We are excited about bringing this film to North American audiences.“
