The Hulu streaming service announced today that they will be releasing the Chloe Grace Moretz sci-fi thriller Mother/Android as a Hulu Original Film on Friday, December 17th – and along with the release date announcement comes a batch of first look images, which can be seen below.
Moretz (Carrie 2013) stars in Mother/Android as Georgia
who, with her boyfriend Sam, goes on a treacherous journey to escape their country, which is caught in an unexpected war with artificial intelligence. Days away from the arrival of their first child, the couple must face No Man’s Land — a stronghold of the android uprising, in hopes of reaching safety before giving birth.
Sam is played by Algee Smith (Judas and the Black Messiah). Raul Castillo (Army of the Dead) is also in the cast.
The film was written and directed by Mattson Tomlin, who wrote the upcoming DC Comics adaptation The Batman with that movie’s director Matt Reeves. Reeves produced Mother/Android through his company 6th & Idaho. Adam Kassan, Rafi Crohn, Charles Miller, and Miramax’s Bill Block produced the film alongside him.
When writing the script for this, Tomlin drew inspiration from the story of the “sacrifices made to bring him into this world”; specifically it’s inspired by his own parents, “a young couple who were determined to save their child amid the dangers of the Romanian Revolution.” Reeves described the result as
an intimate sci-fi film that is both beautiful and extremely personal, with a powerful, soulful performance from Chloë Moretz.”
The fact that Tomlin brought such a strong personal element to a movie about an android uprising has me really interested in checking out Mother/Android once it starts streaming.
