Most Anticipated Streaming Films Of 2023

S​treamers had been in the news a lot over 2022. Less for what they were providing their subscribers but more for what they weren’t providing. Finished movies were shelved forever, projects canceled outright, and shows that seemed a shoo-in to be renewed were canceled. Luckily for 2023, it looks like we’re still about to get a lot of great content sent directly to our homes. What streaming films should we be anticipating?

T​een Wolf: The Movie – Paramount+ January 26th

I​t’s finally come full circle. First, there was the 80s Teen Wolf movie. Then MTV took that idea and based a young adult TV series on it. Now, that MTV series is getting a reunion movie to premiere on Paramount+. As it was, it shall be. A new evil has emerged, and Scott must reunite with his old friends, as well as some new ones, to fight this new menace.

S​hotgun Wedding – Amazon Prime January 27th

A​ couple has their destination wedding hijacked by criminals. Think Die Hard at a wedding. J-Lo and Josh Dumel have to then fight back against the hijackers in order to save their families. The film looks like a lot of fun and throws in plenty of tropes from romantic comedies but also has some action movie cliches so that everyone is covered.

Y​ou People – Netflix January 27th

E​ddie Murphy and Jonah Hill team up to bring the laughs in the new Netflix release. Ezra wants to marry his girlfriend Amira. First, he has to meet her parents and get their permission. Things do not go according to plan. As the two families begin to meet, it’s found that their different life philosophies don’t match up. This comedic matchup makes easily makes this one of the most anticipated streaming films for comedy fans.

S​harper – Apple TV+ February 17th

T​he film comes from a partnership between A24 and Apple TV+ that includes a great cast. A young con man decides to take on a group of billionaires. The film comes from a script written by Brian Gatewood and Alessandro Tanaka. It made the Blacklist of 2020 for best-unproduced scripts.

L​uther: The Fallen Sun – Netflix March

T​he Idris Elba series from the BBC gets a feature film. Elba will once again play DCI John Luther. His investigation methods clash with how his superiors would like him to wrap up cases, but he gets the job done. The series lasted for five seasons on the BBC and wrapped up in 2019. Elba had expressed interest in playing the character again but didn’t think there would be another season of the show. Neil Cross returns as the creative force behind the character to bring him back on TV screens. This time teaming up with Netflix.

T​he Mother – Netflix May

J​-Lo is on the list once again. This time she plays an assassin that has come out of hiding to protect the daughter she left behind. Lopez is playing a darker role than her previous comedy film on the list. It looks to have shades of A Long Kiss Goodnight without the amnesia subplot.

W​e Have A Ghost – Netflix Spring

T​his film comes from Chris Landon, who brought us the Happy Death Day and Freaky films. A family discovers that a ghost lives in their new home. They are able to capture the proof and instantly become social media celebrities. When they decide to look into the death that happened in their house, the CIA gets involved.

M​urder Mystery 2 – Netflix Spring

A​dam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston return to play Nick and Audrey Spitz. The couple once again gets wrapped up in a murder investigation. The original film was a huge draw for Netflix when it premiered. Their relationship with Adam Sandler and his production company Happy Madison has been a great move with the streaming giant.

K​illers Of The Flower Moon – Apple TV+ TBA 2023

M​artin Scorcese directs this crime drama set in the 1920s. Members of the Osage tribe are murdered under mysterious circumstances. This sparks interest from J. Edgar Hoover, who sends out investigators to get to the bottom of it. The cast alone makes this a must-watch movie this year.

P​eter Pan & Wendy – Disney+ TBA 2023

D​isney continues its trend of remaking their animated classics into live-action films. Peter convinces a group of siblings to follow him to Wonderland. There they run into a dastardly pirate named Captain Hook. This time around, Jude Law will be playing the pirate with a hook for a hand. Disney fans will be highly anticipating this streaming film.

T​he Killer – Netflix TBA 2023

A​n assassin begins to rethink his line of work. The psychological toll of his jobs begin to make it hard for him to continue, but he is still highly in demand. The latest film from David Fincher as part of his Netflix deal. It should be interesting to see how he dives into this world after movies like his remake of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and his serial killer series Mindhunter.

R​ebel Moon – Netflix TBA 2023

Z​ach Snyder directs this sci-fi film as he continues his relationship with Netflix. This film is based on a pitch he made for an entry into the Star Wars franchise. Now he is making it as a stand-alone film that he says is based on his love of Star Wars and Akira Kurosawa films. A tyrannical leader keeps sending his armies out to terrorize a peaceful village. In the lead-up to another attack, a young woman heads out to find warriors from other planets to help defend her homeland.
