The Mortal Kombat reboot produced by James Wan is part of Warner Bros.' plan to release their 2021 films in theatres and to the HBO Max streaming service on the same day, and now we know when the movie is going to reach screens big and small. A new poster has arrived online (check it out below), and it reveals that Mortal Kombat's release date is April 16, 2021.
The feature directorial debut of Simon McQuoid, the film was written by Greg Russo and centers on
a male protagonist who becomes drawn into the interdimensional tournament, and begins to realize his true potential as a result.
The cast includes Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero, Mehcad Brooks as Jax, Tadanobu Asano as Raiden, Sisi Stringer as Mileena, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Josh Lawson as Kano, Chin Han as Shang Tsung, Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion, Elissa Cadwell as Nitara, Daniel Nelson as Kabal, and Lewis Tan in an unspecified role.
Wan produced Mortal Kombat with Todd Garner. Larry Kasanoff, E. Bennett Walsh, Michael Clear, and Sean Robins serve as executive producers.
Don't expect to see a trailer for the film in the next couple weeks; Garner took to his Twitter account to let everyone know the trailer will be coming "in the new year".
I look forward to checking out this new Mortal Kombat in April.
