Morgan Freeman developing adaptation of Image Comics’ Planetoid

Morgan Freeman, producer of big budget sci-fi thrillers? You bet! According to IndieWire, Freeman’s production company, Revelations Entertainment, has optioned the rights to Image Comics’ PLANETOID, with plans to turn it into a feature film.

Here’s the PLANETOID synopsis:

Silas, an ex-soldier turned space pirate, finds himself stranded on a mysterious planet in alien territory. As he explores the long-abandoned industrial ruins of the planet’s surface, he will have to fend off roving cyborg militias and a hostile alien military with a bounty on his head. Ultimately, Silas will have to build a coalition amongst the planetoid’s nomadic tribes to make a final stand against the larger tyrannical forces that rule over them.

While it may initially seem like an odd fit, Freeman is a big sci-fi guy. He’s been trying for years to get a film version of Arthur C. Clarke’s classic tome RENDEZVOUS WITH RAMA off the ground. He also hosts a series called “Through the Wormhole” on the science channel.

PLANETOID, written and drawn by Ken Garing, was released in June 2012. No word yet on if Freeman will just as as producer or if he’ll co-star as well.
