There are a number of reasons why KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE is regarded as a cult classic. We can start with the fact that the movie is about killer clowns… sorry, klowns… from outer space. But whether it’s the pink cotton candy cocoons or the circus tent spaceship, there is enough bizarre shit contained throughout to have made an impression on young teenagers who soaked this movie up on cable throughout its heyday of the early 90s.
I’ve seen the film a number of times over the years and I still get a big kick out of its absurdity, but I don’t know that I’ve ever asked for more KILLER KLOWNS to ever exist.
Director Stephen Chiodo disagrees with me, and, in appearing on Adam Green‘s latest episode of The Movie Crypt, detailed a vision to bring back those beloved KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE.
Right now, we are currently pursuing a long arch series for cable. We wondered, ‘Should we do a sequel to the first one or do we do a remake?’ We came up with a ‘requel’ – it’s a sequel and a remake. We’ve been developing this for a while. It’s a trilogy in four parts, and it really follows the continuing adventures of new people who are experiencing this phenomenon of a Klown invasion, and once in a while you see some of the old guys pop up and hear their stories – find out what happened over the last 25 years. It’s f*cking great.
Okay… I’m not totally opposed to this concept if an idea has been hatched that is equally as wild and crazy as the first film, but let me stop Mr. Chiodo for a second. What the hell is a four-part trilogy? Isn’t a trilogy by its very nature three parts? That’s where the tri- part of the word come in. But I digress…
If people want this to happen, and a buyer can be found, there are much worse ideas hitting TV than a KILLER KLOWNS series. Go for it, I guess.
