Hot on the heels of Jason Clarke nabbing a role in Matt Reeves’ DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES is up-and-comer Kodi Smit-Mcphee as he has landed a role in the film as well, according to Deadline. Much like Clarke’s character there have been no details as to what exactly Smit-McPhee’s role will consist of. This is another inspiring choice by 20th Century Fox because here is a kid who — while young — has been turning out some great performances with THE ROAD, LET ME IN and voicing the lead chacter in PARANORMAN.
DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES continues the story of how ultra-intelligent simian Caesar (Andy Serkis) presides over the fall of human civilization. After the apes break out of their facility, a virus breaks out that causes the collapse of human society. The new project is taking the story to the next level, with the apes on the path to emerge as society’s new rulers.
Production will begin this spring with a release date for May 23rd, 2014. The film was penned by Mark Bomback, from a draft by RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES writers Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver.
