Moonfall clip of first five minutes show off Roland Emmerich’s disaster epic

Sure, they may not be the best films in the world, but I’m always down to check out Roland Emmerich’s latest helping of disaster porn. The director’s next stab at destroying national landmarks is Moonfall, a sci-fi action film that finds the moon knocked from its orbit by some mysterious force and set on a collision course for Earth. With life as we know it hanging in the balance and just weeks until impact, a ragtag team is launched into a seemingly impossible mission to land on the Moon and save humanity. Lionsgate has now released a clip of the first five minutes of Moonfall, and you can check that out above.

The first five minutes found in this Moonfall clip follows astronauts Brian Harper (Patrick Wilson) and Jo Fowler (Halle Berry) as they debate the lyrics of Toto’s Africa. A mysterious cloud of particles suddenly rips past them, destroying the satellite Harper is repairing and sending the shuttle spiralling out of control. The clip comes to an end with Harper observing the particle cloud drilling into the moon.

Roland Emmerich has previously teased that the idea for Moonfall originated when he heard about the Hollow Moon theory. “I immediately realized, oh, my God, this could very well be one of these conspiracies where you can have something really traumatic happen, meaning the moon is getting out of orbit and falling on Earth,” Emmerich said. “But at the same time, you learn that the moon is not what you think it is. It’s always a cool way to get into a movie.

The official synopsis for Moonfall:

A mysterious force knocks the Moon from its orbit around Earth and send it hurtling on a collision course with life as we know it. With mere weeks before impact and the world on the brink of annihilation, NASA executive and former astronaut Jo Fowler (Halle Berry) is convinced she has the key to saving us all, but only one astronaut from her past, Brian Harper (Patrick Wilson) and a conspiracy theorist K.C. Houseman (John Bradley) believe her. These unlikely heroes will mount an impossible last-ditch mission into space, leaving behind everyone they love, only to find out that our Moon is not what we think it is.

How do you feel about this Moonfall clip? The movie will hit theaters on February 4, 2022.
