If Paramount had stuck with the original release plan for their movie MONSTER PROBLEMS, it would have reached theatres right before the pandemic shutdown – its first release date was March 6th. But the studio decided to push it back six weeks, to April 17th, a nice spot right before the deluge of summer blockbusters. Of course, the movie didn't end up coming out on April 17th, just like the summer blockbusters also haven't been released. Paramount considered giving the film a theatrical release in February of next year, but now they have decided to send it to Premium Video-On-Demand.
MONSTER PROBLEMS, now going by the title LOVE AND MONSTERS, is set to reach PVOD on October 16th.
Paramount COO Andrew Gumpert made the following statement:
Given the demand for new, high-quality entertainment right now, Paramount has decided to release LOVE AND MONSTERS widely on digital platforms. While we eagerly look forward to the reopening of movie theaters, we wanted to make this original and imaginative film available for everyone to enjoy at home."
LOVE AND MONSTERS will be available for 48 hour rentals at a price of $19.99 in the U.S., and early digital purchases at the price of $24.99.
Directed by Michael Matthews from a screenplay by Matthew Robinson, Craig Johnson, and Brian Duffield, LOVE AND MONSTERS begins when
a monster breaks into a colony’s bunker and kills one of its members. Joel Dawson (Dylan O’Brien) sets out to reunite with his high school love (Jessica Henwick) and braves dangerous mutated animals, unexpected friendships and foes along the way.
O'Brien and Henwick are joined in the cast by Michael Rooker (who plays Clyde, "an expert hunter who teaches Joel how to survive the monster apocalypse"), Ariana Greenblatt, and Dan Ewing.
LOVE AND MONSTERS was produced by Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen of 21 Laps, the company behind Stranger Things, with John Starke executive producing.
Duffield also co-wrote UNDERWATER
