If you're looking forward to Paul W.S. Anderson's latest video game movie MONSTER HUNTER, Screen Gems has some good news for you: they have moved the film's release date forward five days, from December 30th to December 25th.
A five day move doesn't mean much, but it is interesting that Screen Gems seemingly made this move in response to the announcement that another Christmas Day release, Warner Bros' WONDER WOMAN 1984, will be available to watch on the HBO Max streaming service (at no additional cost to subscribers) the same day it reaches theatres. Maybe Screen Gems sees WONDER WOMAN 1984 as less of a box office threat since people will be watching it on HBO Max, while they'll only be able to watch MONSTER HUNTER in theatres.
Milla Jovovich, T.I. Harris, Meagan Good, Diego Boneta, Tony Jaa, and Ron Perlman star in the film, which has the following synopsis:
Behind our world, there is another: a world of dangerous and powerful monsters that rule their domain with deadly ferocity.
When an unexpected sandstorm transports Lt. Artemis (Jovovich) and her unit (Harris, Good, Boneta) to a new world, the soldiers are shocked to discover that this hostile and unknown environment is home to enormous and terrifying monsters immune to their firepower. In their desperate battle for survival, the unit encounters the mysterious Hunter (Jaa), whose unique skills allow him to stay one step ahead of the powerful creatures. As Artemis and Hunter slowly build trust, she discovers that he is part of a team led by the Admiral (Perlman). Facing a danger so great it could threaten to destroy their world, the brave warriors combine their unique abilities to band together for the ultimate showdown.
These are the biggest movies to reach theatres since TENET, so it will be interesting to see how well they do. Personally, I'm still not ready to go see things on the big screen.
