Fans knew it in their hearts and critics speculated it for about a year now: The SAW franchise will never truly die. No matter how many “final chapters” they slap on each ad and poster, the truth of the matter is that money always talks in the end. Which is why it’s safe to assume that there could be future sequels or even spin-offs down the road. They may or may not be distributed by Lionsgate but it is a possibility. What supports this notion? Ask SAW 3D villain Costas Mandylor who mentions a few words regarding some alternate endings to SAW 3D.
“I think there is but they always shoot alternate endings and I never know if I’m dead or not… A lot of people I’m not sure if they’re coming back or not. I don’t think they do it to confuse us. They do it to give themselves options. But there is a possibility. It depends on which ending they use.”
Not surprisingly, alternate endings is always an indicator for future installments. Look no further than the PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN franchise. Where it was suspected to be a trilogy, there is a new installment awaiting in the midst.
Kevin Greutert and his cast were confident in saying that this is it, the big finale that we have all been looking forward to. Greutert comments that they will not be making any future films after this. But, again, does that mean that the story can’t go on? It’s reasonable to say the least that other, small studios who are interested in banking in on the SAW bucks could make spin-offs or direct-to-DVD films. Come next weekend, however, we are all going to face a choice. Accept it as an ending or go with the alternates. Live or die. Make your choice.
In SAW 3D, the seventh chapter, a deadly battle rages over Jigsaw’s brutal legacy. A group of Jigsaw survivors gathers to seek the support of self-help guru, and fellow survivor, Bobby Dagen. Soon though, the survivors really must help themselves as Dagen’s dark secrets unleash a new wave of terror…
The last entry of the SAW franchise comes at us from director Kevin Greutert and stars Tobin Bell, Cary Elwes, Sean Patrick Flanery, Betsy Russell (below), Costas Mandylor, Gina Holden, Tanedra Howard, Chad Donella, Joris Jarsky, Dean Armstrong and James Van Patten. It hits theaters across the country on October 29th!
