There was a time during my childhood when horror magazines were selling me on the idea that Mitch Pileggi was going to be the genre's next great icon, so I will always have a spot in my horror-loving heart for the man who played Horace Pinker in SHOCKER. Even though I'm not very familiar with The X-Files overall, having only seen a few stray episodes, I do know that Pileggi plays a character named Walter Skinner on the show – and it has now been announced that Pileggi will be reprising the role of FBI Assistant Director Skinner on the next season, which is currently in the works for a 2018 premiere on Fox.
This might be bigger news if Pileggi hadn't already returned for last year's six episode revival of the series, but Pileggi is always big news as far as I'm concerned.
And have no fear, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are also coming back for the new season.
In one of the longest-running science fiction series in network TV history, FBI special agents investigate unexplained, mind-bending cases known as "X-Files." Though the government is convinced that the outlandish reports are false, conspiracy theorist Fox Mulder (Duchovny) and realist Dana Scully (Anderson), for most of the series, stop at nothing to prove that "the truth is out there."
The next season of The X-Files will consist of ten episodes, and creator Chris Carter is currently crafting those episodes with writers James Wong, Glen Morgan, Darin Morgan, Brad Follmer, Gabe Rotter, and Benjamin Van Allen.
