Prepare to get your ticket punched as the duo takes you on a guided tour along a harrowing train sequence fueled by death-defying stunts, majestic surroundings, and ingenuity that will blow your mind. Behold the Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One train stunt featurette in all its glory!
“When we started talking about this movie in terms of a sense of adventure, an action sequence on a train was something we always wanted to do. We wanted to build upon the previous films and apply all that knowledge to something practical and real,” McQuarrie says while acting as our guide for the Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One train stunt featurette.
McQuarrie explains how there was not a surplus of trains available to be wrecked, so the Mission: Impossible crew had to build a train if they wanted to destroy it. McQuarrie describes filming the sequence as extraordinarily challenging, not just to execute but to design all the train cars that could function on a working railroad track. McQuarrie emphasizes that no one else in the movie-making industry is going to this level for practical effects and that Tom Cruise is at the heart of the experience.
Esai Morales, who plays Gabriel in the film, also speaks about the experience, saying that fighting Cruise while atop a train moving at 60 miles per hour is an experience unlike any other. Hayley Atwell also expresses her admiration for Cruise’s dedication, saying the actor makes you feel safe, even when dangling from the back of a speeding vehicle.
The Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One train stunt featurette also highlights the vehicle’s destruction, pressing on the fact that the crew only gets one opportunity to film the wreck. If anything goes wrong, anything at all, there’s no going back. Everything needs to be perfect.
In Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his IMF team embark on their most dangerous mission yet: To track down a terrifying new weapon that threatens all of humanity before it falls into the wrong hands. With control of the future and the world’s fate at stake and dark forces from Ethan’s past closing in, a deadly race around the globe begins. Confronted by a mysterious, all-powerful enemy, Ethan must consider that nothing can matter more than his mission – not even the lives of those he cares about most.
Christopher McQuarrie directs from a screenplay he wrote with Erik Jendressen, based on the television series created by Bruce Geller. Cruise and McQuarrie produce, with David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger, Tommy Gormley, Chris Brock, and Susan E. Novick executive producing.
