The Mission: Impossible series is one of those rare franchises that, for the most part, just keeps getting better and better with each installment. Watching Tom Cruise risk life and limb for our entertainment is always thrilling, but Mission: Impossible has also built up a wonderful ensemble cast that have become just as important as Cruise’s Ethan Hunt. The upcoming sequel will include many familiar characters that have been built up over the past few films, but it will also feature a blast from the past in Henry Czerny. The actor played Eugene Kittridge in the very first Mission: Impossible movie twenty-five years ago and he has returned for the latest sequel. Writer/director Christopher McQuarrie posted a new Mission: Impossible 7 image that puts Kittridge front and center.
“I’ve been thinking about Kittridge going all the way back to Rogue Nation,” Christopher McQuarrie said last year. “I’m much more interested in finding something great for that character to do. Early in this process I had an inkling that there could be a place for Kittridge – the tone of the movie, the shape of the movie lent itself to that. I realised, ‘Kittridge has got to be in this scene.’ I had written it not knowing who was in it, and then suddenly Kittridge came into it and the scene was transformed, it was really fun. I got to call Henry Czerny and say, ‘You’re in! Will you be in it?’ He was great about it.” In addition to Henry Czerny, Mission: Impossible 7 will also feature the return of Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt, Rebecca Ferguson as Ilsa Faust, Simon Pegg as Benji Dunn, Ving Rhames as Luther Stickell, Vanessa Kirby as the White Widow, as well as franchise newbies Hayley Atwell, Esai Morales, Pom Klementieff, and more.
Mission: Impossible 7 is currently slated to hit theaters on May 27, 2022, and will be followed by Mission: Impossible 8 on July 7, 2023.
