Good grief! The cast and crew working on MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 7 seemingly can't catch a break to save their souls. First, production on the film was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic, and now an accident involving a motorbike has caused the film to once again shut down. Word of the accident hails from The Sun, who says that the Tom Cruise action sequel will see another delay after a stuntman’s bike reportedly exploded as it leapt from a ramp.
“This has been a massive challenge to stage and has cost a fortune, not to mention weeks and weeks of construction. But when it came to the big day, it went horribly wrong,” a source told The Sun. “The idea was for the stuntman to land on some huge pillows filled with card to cushion the blow, while the bike safely crashed to the ground a few metres away. Unfortunately, it was miscalculated.”
The source then goes on: “The heat and the friction of the tyres meant that when the bike crashed, the cardboard padding sparked and went up in flames. The smoke was so bad they had to close a nearby RAF airfield. Fortunately, nobody was hurt but it’s a total catastrophe, not to mention extremely expensive for all concerned. Tom is very frustrated. Nobody wants more delays.”
Promptly after the accident, five fire engines and crews hailing from the Oxfordshire Fire Service were dispatched to the scene. Ambulances also arrived and were standing by in case of an emergency. Insiders close to the project say that the film will need to shut down until the area can be cleared and the damage can be assessed.
Directed and written by Christopher McQuarrie, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE stars Tom Cruise, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, and Ving Rhames. Details about the film's plot are currently being kept under wraps, though you can guarantee the movie will include high-tech masks, breath-taking stunts, and enough balls-to-the-wall action to satisfy Cruise's unquenchable thirst for near-death experiences.
