Mission: Impossible 7 footage brings intense action to CinemaCon

Last Updated on August 27, 2021

JoBlo.com is at this year’s CinemaCon, where Paramount has just debuted new footage from the highly-anticipated Mission: Impossible 7. We’ve got our resident Tom Cruise stan, Chris Bumbray, attending this year’s show, and he was more than excited to share what he saw during the upcoming film’s presentation.

According to Chris, Paramount kicked their Mission: Impossible 7 spot off with a behind-the-scenes shot of a motorcycle jumping off a cliff. That jump then quickly turned into an all-out base jump. Cruise is once again doing his own stunts for the seventh film in the Mission: Impossible franchise, and he’s got some advice for all the would-be daredevils out there. “Don’t be careful, be confident.” Cruise trained for a year to perform this stunt, undergoing plenty of base jump training to prepare. He also engaged in heavy motocross training in the interest of performing bigger stunts this time out.

At this point in the presentation, the film’s director, Christopher McQuarrie, addresses the audience. “Two years ago, the cameras didn’t exist to do what we’re doing today.”

To prepare for the film, McQuarrie and his team built models and stunt racks for high jumps. In fact, Cruise’s base jumping stunt may be one of the biggest stunts ever captured on film. “I always wear earplugs so I can’t hear myself scream,” Cruise says with a smirk.

Next, we return to Norway, where they’re preparing for the jump. Everything had to be flown in by helicopter on account of this being a remote shoot. The stunt was captured on the very first day of filming.

Chris attests that the stunt was “incredible.” He says that Cruise falls a tremendous amount before his parachute opens. You can see McQuarrie filming, and at one point he looks panicked. Is the star of his film about to die? After the stunt was over, Cruise was not satisfied. So, they ran the stunt five more times!

Lastly, Paramount presented its audience with a sizzle reel for the film. It contained plenty of amazing footage showing Hayley Atwell, tons of action, a desert shoot-out, a brief glimpse of Esai Morales as the villain, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Rebecca Ferguson, and more. From what we can tell, Atwell will play a major role in the film.
