Netflix and David Fincher's amazing serial killer series MINDHUNTER debuted on the streaming giant way back in October 2017. And today we have confirmation from executive producer and series director David Fincher, who let the news slip on a recent podcast appearance:
Yes, there is now [a date]. I’m not sure, I guess I’m allowed to say it, but, yeah, it’s gonna be [August] 16th.
A rep for Netflix later confirmed the premiere date, but it seems to be in-line with what executive producer, Charlize Theron said back in May.
Season 2 plot details have been skim, but that said, we do know that Damon Herriman (who oddly enough plays Manson in Quentin Tarantino’s ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD) will be playing Charles Manson this season. And Fincher did confirm the new season will feature The Atlanta Child Murders, a series of killings that left 28 African-American children, teenagers, and adults killed between 1979-1981. On top of that, retired FBI agent John E. Douglas, who wrote the book that inspired the series, confirmed some of the long-standing rumors about the show’s second season would feature David Berkowitz AKA Son of Sam.
Berkowitz and Manson were already in jail by 1977, so it makes sense that our lead detectives will be interviewing the killers as they try to solve the Atlanta child murders case. As for the episode count, Season 2 would consist of eight episodes with Fincher directing the premiere and finale. Andrew Dominik and Carl Franklin helming the other episodes. MINDHUNTER SEASON 2 hits Netflix on August 16, 2019.
