Miller in The Spirit

At this past week’s New York Comic-Con, Frank Miller updated the status of another of his comic-to-film projects in THE SPIRIT. Miller, along with producers Michael E. Uslan and F.J. DeSanto, will produce a movie based on legendary artist Will Eisner’s ‘The Spirit’, which was created in 1940. Miller will write and direct the independently-financed feature being produced by Uslan, best known for his work on BATMAN BEGINS and CONSTANTINE, along with Odd Lot Productions.

Miller, who wasn’t actually there due to being laid up with a smashed hip (damn black ice), wrote an e-mail which DeSanto read to the audience explaining the project. “Don’t go expecting a nostalgic tongue-in-cheek romp here. Remember, remember how scary Eisner got whenever he chose to. Remember how he broke your heart with the story of San Serif, so expect some hair-pin turns, some dead end back alley madness, the wet kind. Get set, we’re on our way to some dark places.”

As well, Miller had prepared a sweet-looking teaser poster for the project, done in SIN CITY style and looking badass. Elsewhere, the panel also touched on just what to expect with THE SPIRIT (think the original BATMAN, sans Prince music), as well as Uslan talking about his involvement with Sam Raimi and New Line for the new flick based on THE SHADOW, which you can check out here.
