Gus Van Sant is an artist. With his last few films, among them PARANOID PARK and LAST DAYS, he has made sure that we don’t forget it. The master of dreamlike landscapes and lyrical, mood-driven atmosphere, it’s sometimes easy to forget that this is also the man who directed straight up dramas like GOOD WILL HUNTING and FINDING FORRESTER. Well it looks like good ol’ Gus has decided to pay the world of conventional narratives another visit, albeit on the seat of a very controversial subject. His latest is MILK, starring Sean Penn as Harvey Milk, the first openly gay man to run for any kind of siginificant office in America, and if the trailer is any indication, Gus is back in fine, fine form. Check it out in glorious quicktime HERE.
