Spider-Man has evolved quite a lot throughout his time on the big screen, but never would anyone describe a SPIDER-MAN movie as psychedelic or trippy. Enter the new animated movie SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE, which looks like the character (this time as Miles Morales) entered an EDM music video where the sole purpose is to get you to hallucinate and see double. Written and produced by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, directed by Bob Persichetti and Peter Ramsey and starring Shameik Moore (as well as Mahershala Ali and Liev Schreiber) this new animated SPIDER-MAN film operates by its own set of rules, featuring hyperkinetic action and surreal visuals, giving Miles Morales a web-swinging entry to remember.
The footage certainly showcases a unique visual style, even if it reminded of how 3D movies looked when you still had to wear the glasses with red and green lenses. The intent here was clearly to make a SPIDER-MAN movie that looks and feels unlike anything we've ever seen from the character before, and without a doubt, they've succeeded. With Lord and Miller involved, we can expect heavy amounts of comedy to fit alongside the action, but this trailer was all amount showing off the look of the flick. It is kind of messing with my brain, and I probably shouldn't watch it again for a little bit. I think I need to rest for a minute.
SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE arrives December 2018.
