Mike Flanagan’s The Haunting of Hill House TV series picked up by Netflix

Well, that was fast! 

Not only are we hearing today that HUSH-helmer Mike Flanagan will executive producing a TV series based on Shirley Jackson's classic novel THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE, but that the series has already been given a 10-episode first season order by Netflix!

The series is set to be a modern take on the novel and Flanagan is on board to write, direct and executive produce. Steven Spielberg’s Amblin TV is producing alongside Paramount TV.

THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE has already been adapted twice now. Once by Robert Wise in 1963, and once by SPEED's Jan DeBont in 1999, starring Liam Neeson, Owen Wilson, and Catherine Zeta-Jones (see below). Both versions were simply called THE HAUNTING.

Flanagan has a good relationship with Netflix after the streaming service acquired his home-invasion flick HUSH last year and greenlit his passion project, an adaptation of Stephen King's GERALD'S GAME earlier this year.

Personally, I am a big fan of director Mike Flanagan and I jump at any news regarding the man's future projects. Add to that the fact that THE HAUNTING is perhaps the scariest book of all time, and this new series has shot up towards (but no surpassing) CASTLE ROCK levels of excitement.
