Mike Flanagan developing TV adaptation of The Midnight Club for Netflix

Mike Flanagan has a good thing going at Netflix as Variety has reported that he's set to develop another TV series for the streaming service. Flanagan, who has HUSH, GERALD'S GAME, The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass, and The Haunting of Bly Manor at Netflix, is set to adapt Christopher Pike's novel "The Midnight Club" for the streamer.

"The Midnight Club" takes place at Rotterdam Home, a hospice for terminally ill teenagers (cheery), and follows a group of patients who begin to gather together at midnight to share scary stories. They then make a pact that whichever one of them dies first will attempt to contact the others from beyond the grave. Spooky, and certainly right up Flanagan's alley. "I began brainstorming an adaptation of THE MIDNIGHT CLUB as a teenager," Flanagan said on Twitter. "So this is a dream come true. It’s an honor to introduce a new generation of young horror fans to the world of Christopher Pike." Flanagan also added that they will be "incorporating a lot of [Christopher Pike's] books into the series. So whatever your favorite Pike book is, there's a chance it'll be part of the show." Flanagan will create The Midnight Club with Leah Fong, a writer on The Haunting of Bly Manor, and both will also executive produce the series. Writers include Elan Gale, James Flanagan, and Chinaka Hodge.

As far as Mike Flanagan's upcoming Netflix projects, production on The Haunting of Bly Manor wrapped up in February and features the return of several actors from the first season, albeit in different roles, such as Victoria Pedretti, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Kate Siegel, and Henry Thomas. The new season is based on "The Turn of the Screw" by Henry James. Flanagan also as Midnight Mass, which was in the midst of production before COVID-19 forced it to shut-down, which takes place on an isolated island community which experiences miraculous events – and frightening omens – after the arrival of a charismatic, mysterious young priest.
