Warner Bros. has just issued the trailer for Jeff Nichols’ MIDNIGHT SPECIAL, which stars Michael Shannon, Joel Edgerton, Kirsten Dunst, Adam Driver and Sam Shephard. This is the flick Nichols (MUD, TAKE SHELTER) said was inspired by the John Carpenter films of the 80s – specifically STARMAN. The trailer possesses a bit of an Amblin vibe too, and the movie seems just as inspired by 80s Spielberg than it does Carpenter. Either way, we’ll take it. My gut’s telling me Nichols has hit one out of the park here, but we’ll have to wait until March to find out.
The simple synopsis:
A father and son go on the run after the dad learns his child possesses special powers.
