Three years after his last genre flick NO ONE LIVES, Japanese director Ryuhei Kitamura is boarding the supernatural Queen Mary tale VESSELS.
According to Variety, ANNABELLE scribe Gary Dauberman has penned the script for VESSELS, which looks to shoot on a barge in Long Beach, CA early next year. The flick marks the first in a long line for financier Ubiquity Studios.
Dubbed “The Grey Ghost” for its ability to avoid Nazi U-Boats, The Queen Mary ship is said to be one of the most haunted places on the globe. It has a rich history dating back to 1936, crossing the ocean more than 1,000 times, and in 1942 the ship capsized with some 16,000 soldiers aboard, a catastrophe that inspired the POSEIDON ADVENTURE back in the 70s. Could make for an epic Ghost Ship flick. I'm pumped!

“The Queen Mary has an epic history through both glorious and hard times, and I’m fascinated by all the stories…“I’m determined to create a visually stunning, really scary modern day ghost story that takes place on this graceful vessel, and it’s a great honor to be able to shoot on the real Queen Mary.”
With SKY HIGH and GODZILLA: FINAL WARS to name is name, Kitamura knows a thing or two about large spectacle thrills. Let's hope he brings more of the same when he boards VESSELS next year.
