Well, tell us how you really feel. Mickey Rourke took to his Instagram page to express his newfound love for Law & Order: SVU while taking a swipe at the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Rourke revealed in the Instagram post that he had discovered SVU during the COVID-19 lockdown, which makes total sense because SVU is an easily binge-able show. I get it. Rourke says that he's watched "1000 of them" and he took time to praise various members of the cast, including Mariska Hargitay, Christopher Meloni, and BD Wong, among others. Then suddenly, at the end of his rant, Rourke decided to throw in a jab at Marvel because he obviously still has sour feelings about Iron Man 2. Here's some of what he had to say:
"What's especially enjoying is watching commodity of this exceptional group of actors…I guess if it wasn't this lockdown most likely i'd never see this show, but since i do all my lifting training in my living room my tv been on whole lockdown and i was able to discover this fabulous show. Respect to all of you,the work that you all do is real acting, not like that crap that all on Marvel s***."
Rourke has a history with the MCU but it wasn't a pleasant one. The Oscar-nominated actor played the villain Ivan Vanko in 2010's Iron Man 2 as he was coming off an Oscar nomination and great critical reviews for The Wrestler. The film revived his career which led to him being cast alongside Robert Downey Jr. in Iron Man 2. This should've been a joyous experience but over the years Rourke has criticized Marvel, most notably during a 2014 appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers. During the interview, Rourke said he was "not a Marvel fan" and he went on to suggest that they axed much of his performance from Iron Man 2 by saying "Once I did a film for Marvel and they cut the whole f****** thing out."
It's no secret that Iron Man 2 suffered from some behind-the-scenes issues. The MCU was still very much in its infancy and they were all still trying to get it together. It's not totally clear how much of Mickey Rourke's performance was left on the cutting room floor but having given it a recent watch last year, it does seem like his character is on the underdeveloped side because a lot of his scenes hit the cutting room floor. Rourke is obviously still salty about the experience but I guess he's within his rights to feel some kind of way about it.
But let's not look at the negative and focus on the positive. If you're on Law & Order: SVU you should be happy that you got a winning endorsement from Mickey Rourke who is just like the rest of us just watching SVU reruns during quarantine. I'm pretty sure if Dick Wolf and company see his Instagram post he might even be able to secure a guest spot. Have your people call his people.
