Serial killer Mick Taylor brought his tourist-tormenting ways to the small screen last year with the six episode Wolf Creek TV series, which was available for viewing through the steaming service Stan in its native Australia and aired on Pop TV in the U.S. Although I felt the show fell apart in its final episode, I thought the build-up to that disappointing finale was excellent – in fact, for those first five episodes I enjoyed the series even more than the feature films WOLF CREEK and WOLF CREEK 2.
So even though the first season ended on a sour note for me, I’m still very excited that we’re going to be getting a second season of the Wolf Creek series. Production is now underway on the new season’s six episodes, with John Jarratt back in the role of the nasty, homicidal Mick Taylor.
WOLF CREEK creator Greg McLean is, as always, overseeing Mick’s ongoing murder spree. This season will be “pitting a diverse cast of characters against an inhospitable, remote landscape” as the killer
sees an opportunity of a lifetime after a chance encounter with a coach full of tourists from around the globe. The unwitting travellers begin an outback adventure none of them could have imagined.
Stan’s Chief Content Officer Nick Forward promises that season two “will kick things up a notch”:
Season 2 is a breath-taking return to the intimate, character-driven style of the original WOLF CREEK movie, set over 6 hour-long episodes of premium drama.”
McLean had this to say about his “exciting new chapter of the Wolf Creek story”:
We’ll join an amazing cast on a road trip of a lifetime, as they must draw on their inner strength to outwit the terrifying Mick Taylor. John Jarratt returns to take Mick’s dark arts to a whole new level, showcasing the beautiful and dangerous landscapes of the remote outback.”
In addition to Jarratt, the cast includes Tess Haubrich, Matt Day, Ben Oxenbould, Laura Wheelwright, Stephen Hunter, and Chris Haywood.
Like season one, Wolf Creek season two will first make its way out into the world through the Stan streaming service. I can’t wait to spend another six hours in the world of this series.
