A veteran of Hong Kong action flicks, Michelle Yeoh may have gotten a taste of the high, HIGH life in CRAZY RICH ASIANS last year, but don’t think that means she’s done taking on fools with slick moves and sharp weapons. In the movie MASTER Z: IP MAN LEGACY – a spinoff of IP MAN 3 – she joins actors Max Zhang, Tony Jaa and Dave Bautista (GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY) in a martial arts adventure that, based on the new trailer, is nothing but set piece after set piece filled with fast punches, hard kicks and Bautista throwing everyone around like sacks of potatoes.

Directed by HK action legend Yuen Woo-ping – renowned for his work on movies like THE MATRIX, CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON, KILL BILL and so much more – MASTER Z was released in China in December but is gearing up for an April release over on this side of the world. Obviously, it’s hard to gauge anything about it other than the action sequences, but there are rooms of men, swords in hand, charging at two lone fighters who will surely demolish them all, and Yeoh taking it to a few fools like a fish to water, so, yeah it looks all kinds of bananas. If you’re a fan of martial arts movies, what more convincing do you actually need?
Here’s the synopsis:
Legendary action director Yuen Wo Ping draws on a stellar cast (Michelle Yeoh, Dave Bautista, Tony Jaa, and Max Zhang) to create a hard-hitting martial arts blast worthy of its place in the celebrated IP MAN universe. Following his defeat by Master Ip, Cheung Tin Chi (Zhang), tries to make a life with his young son in Hong Kong, waiting tables at a bar that caters to expats. But it’s not long before the mix of foreigners, money, and triad leaders draw him once again to the fight.
MASTER Z: IP MAN LEGACY his theaters April 12.
