In last year's VENOM, Michelle Williams played Annie Weying, the wife of our symbiote-coated hero Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy). I thought Williams and her distracting wig were almost completely wasted in the film, despite the brief moment when she got coated in symbiote herself so she could play "She-Venom".
While speaking with Yahoo, Williams confirmed that she is coming back to play Annie again in VENOM 2, so hopefully this sequel will actually give her a reason to be around.
After confirming that she's signed on for VENOM 2 by simply saying "I'm in", Williams expressed excitement over getting the chance to work with the film's newly-hired director Andy Serkis:
I’m such a fan of Andy’s, and I’m so inspired by what he’s been able to accomplish. He’s so gifted in such a specific way, and I’m very excited to learn from him and be around him."
The hiring of Serkis is very interesting to me, because I have no idea what to expect from a Serkis VENOM movie. When the first movie was in the works I could imagine what director Ruben Fleischer (ZOMBIELAND) might do with it, but I don't know what Serkis is going to do with the sequel.
If Williams gets her way, Serkis will be adding a lot more She-Venom into the new movie. She wants to be right alongside Venom for the bulk of the action:
I hope I get equal time that way — I can say that!"
Tom Hardy will be reprising the role of Eddie Brock in VENOM 2 and has been working closely with screenwriter Kelly Marcel as the script is being written.
The film is likely aiming for an October 2020 release.
