THE GREEN HORNET has been plagued with nothing but problems since its inception, with cast members and directors coming and going left and right. The latest issue is a delay in its release, which was rumored to be because Sony was unhappy with the film thus far.
But not so, says director Michel Gondry. The pushback is for 3D “enhancement,” something that Gondry claims is not a gimmick and he appears to be legitimately excited about both 3D in HORNET and in general as he recently told ComingSoon.
“I’ve always loved 3D. In fact, as a kid, I was exposed to 3D at an early age because my grandfather was a specialist of 3D in cinematheques. And then my cousin put it in Science of Sleep with toilet paper tube cities.”
“I have a lot of ideas. I’m not supposed to talk about that because people have a lot of opinions, but I’m the one who knows what it really means. It’s a tool that I’m really excited to embrace and I have tons of ideas. There’s one thing that has never been done and I can’t wait to do. That can only be done in 3D. I’m really excited to know that the studio is going for it. It shows, really, that they believe in the film. If they wanted to dump us, they wouldn’t have done this.”
I’m not sure what this mysterious “one thing” is that Gondry claims has never been done before, but seeing as 3D is still a (relatively) new gimmick format , I’m sure there’s a lot left that can be done with the tech.
As for the film itself? The entire combination of Gondry, Seth Rogen and The Green Hornet has ALWAYS seemed kind of insane to me, I guess it’s just a matter of time before we find out if it’s the good or bad kind of crazy.
