Michael Shannon signs up for David O. Russell’s drama series at Amazon

There are a handful of actors who I just can't help but love, and Michael Shannon is certainly one of them. From GROUNDHOG DAY to REVOLUTIONARY ROAD to TAKE SHELTER to MAN OF STEEL, Michael Shannon has proven to be a highlight of just about every project he takes on, and his latest project will see the actor returning to television. Variety reports that Michael Shannon has signed on to join Robert De Niro and Julianne Moore in David O. Russell's new untitled drama series at Amazon.

Unfortunately, not much is known about the series, which David O. Russell will write and direct, other than it's being described as a mafia crime series. Details about just who Michael Shannon will be playing are also unknown, but based on his excellent work on HBO's Boardwalk Empire as Nelson Van Alden, I think we can expect great things. Amazon and The Weinstein Company landed the series last fall after quite the competitive bidding war and have already committed to two eight-episode seasons of the as-yet-untitled series. Production is expected to begin later this year in New York.

Michael Shannon has several big projects on the horizon, including Guillermo del Toro's THE SHAPE OF WATER on December 8, 2017, Alfonso Gomez-Rejon's THE CURRENT WAR on December 22, 2017, and Nicolai Fuglsig's HORSE SOLDIERS on January 19, 2018. He's also currently filming an adaptation of Ray Bradbury's classic novel "Fahrenheit 451" for HBO alongside Michael B. Jordan.
