Netflix is pumping out movies and TV shows like crazy, with the sci-fi-action/drama flick EXTINCTION being one of their latest, more exciting-looking releases. The first trailer showcases Michael Pena (ANT-MAN AND THE WASP) in the lead role as a man who starts having visions of a terrifying future, one that eventually comes true. Lizzy Caplan (MASTERS OF SEX), and Mike Colter (LUKE CAGE) flesh out the supporting cast with Ben Young (HOUNDS OF LOVE) directing.
Here is the official synopsis:
A working class father of the future faces recurring dreams of destruction by an unknown force. When his unwanted nightmares begin to affect his relationship with his family, he soon realizes they may be the key to a horrible reality, as a relentless alien attack begins to destroy the Earth. As the invaders’ assault progresses, he is forced to find both the strength to protect his family and an understanding of who he truly is.
Netflix is continuing to dish out movies with bigger budgets as a way of solidifying themselves as an entertainment powerhouse, with other sci-fi movies like BRIGHT, MUTE and THE CLOVERFIELD PARADOX being notable examples. EXTINCTION can add itself to that list, and deserves props for giving Pena the leading role he’s undoubtedly earned. The movie itself looks interesting and the cast is great, and hopefully, so here's to hoping Netflix has something great with this one.
EXTINCTION arrives on Netflix July 27.
