Michael Keaton thinks the ship has sailed regarding a Beetlejuice sequel

It's been nearly thirty years (really? holy shit) since Michael Keaton first brought Betelgeuse to life in the Tim Burton film and rumours of a sequel have been circling for almost as long. In the last couple of years that sequel talk has become much more serious with Seth Grahame-Smith working on a screenplay and both Winona Ryder and Tim Burton seemingly confirming that it would be happening. Michael Keaton has previously said that as long as Burton was involved, it'd be "very hard" for Keaton not to be involved as well.

Flash forward to the present day and Michael Keaton has once again been asked about BEETLEJUICE 2, but he's heard absolutely nothing about the project and says that "it's possible that ship has sailed." That's not to say that it won't happen and that Keaton doesn't want to be involved if it does, but he's naturally cautious about returning to that well and coming up short.

The only way to do it is to do it right. So much of it was improvised and so much was beautifully handmade by the artist that is Tim Burton. If you can’t get close to that, you leave it alone. There are certain movies that are like Indian burial grounds. You never ride over them. Bad s— happens if you cross that. You don’t touch certain things. They are sacred.

Michael Keaton will next be seen in THE FOUNDER in which he plays Ray Kroc, an Illinois salesman who maneuvers himself into a position to take control of the McDonalds fast-food empire. THE FOUNDER will be released on December 16, 2016 and then our next dose of Keaton comes with SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING on July 7, 2017 where he will be playing the Vulture.
