BATMAN RETURNS and CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY director Tim Burton has been teasing a sequel to his hit horror-comedy BEETLEJUICE starring Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Jeffrey Jones, Catherine O'Hara, Winona Ryder, and Michael Keaton for what feels like forever. And today longtime Burton composer Danny Elfman say that Keaton is still as excited as all of us for BEETLEJUICE 2.
Elfman says:
A year ago, I saw Michael Keaton, and he mentioned 'So, we're doing Beetlejuice 2?', and I said 'Well, you'd know more than I do.' And I've heard nothing about it since.
Elfman then goes on to stress that the film may very well be in development, but he wouldn't know, adding:
Yeah, projects will be in development for quite a long time. So I think it is something that has been in development for a few years, but I don't know where it is in that process. I'm always the last one to hear, believe me. Often, I'll hear about whatever movie Tim is doing, it is kinda funny, because he'll call me and he'll say 'Danny, I'm doing such and such a film, would you like to come on board?', and I'll already have read about it in Variety two weeks earlier. So I'm not the first one to hear about things, let me put it that way.
Here's hoping Keaton keeps the dream alive until the film finally hits the screen! In the meantime, the original BEETLEJUICE begins
After Barbara (Geena Davis) and Adam Maitland (Alec Baldwin) die in a car accident, they find themselves stuck haunting their country residence, unable to leave the house. When the unbearable Deetzes (Catherine O'Hara, Jeffrey Jones) and teen daughter Lydia (Winona Ryder) buy the home, the Maitlands attempt to scare them away without success. Their efforts attract Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton), a rambunctious spirit whose "help" quickly becomes dangerous for the Maitlands and innocent Lydia.
The original BEETLEJUICE was directed by Tim Burton from a screenplay by Michael McDowell and Warren Skaaren. Michael Bender, Larry Wilson, and Richard Hashimoto produced. The film starred Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Jeffrey Jones, Catherine O'Hara, Winona Ryder, and Michael Keaton.
