Michael Keaton says if Tim Burton’s “in” for Beetlejuice 2 then so is he

There’s been a lot of back and forth on a BEETLEJUICE sequel with reports coming in last year that original director Tim Burton and original star Michael Keaton were “in talks” to reprise their respective roles for a sequel to the 1988 hit. However, since then we haven’t heard or seen much movement on the follow-up, despite a quick nibble from Winona Ryder. However, we can keep the afterlife alive, as Keaton sat down with MTV while doing the press round for ROBOCOP and dropped some info on the proposed sequel and it’s sounding good. The gist is below, but you can see his entire response (including his thoughts on the 25th Anniversary of the 1989 BATMAN) in the embed.

“Now it looks like he is involved. And without giving too much away we’ve talked to each other, and e-mailed each other, and if he’s in, it’s going to be hard not to be in.”

As a huge fan of the original BEETLEJUICE I’m completely on board for a sequel, but ONLY if it’s got Burton and Keaton. We don’t necessarily need Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis back (although I’d be perfectly happy to have them return), but it would be cool to see Winona Ryder‘s Lydia in a key role. Screenwriters Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg have worked on the script for the sequel, but no details have been divilged. More than anything, I just want to see Keaton cut loose as the titular character again. In my opinion, it’s one of his all time best roles.

BEETLEJUICE 2 is currently in development. You can catch Keaton in ROBOCOP, which is now playing in theaters. Tim Burton‘s next film is BIG EYES with Christoph Waltz, Jason Schwartzman, Amy Adams, and Krysten Ritter.
