With next week's Oscar nominations, it’s likely that both Michael Keaton and Reese Witherspoon will be nominated for their respective performances in BIRDMAN and WILD. While their careers are as hot as ever, so are the options for future projects. First up is Keaton, the actor is finalizing a deal to join the cast of Legendary Pictures’ KONG: SKULL ISLAND. He would join the previously announced Tom Hiddleston and J.K. Simmons.
As one of the greatest actors of our time, Keaton is no stranger to the blockbuster with more recent roles in NEED FOR SPEED, ROBOCOP, and voice work in TOY STORY 3 and CARS. Also, he’s BATMAN. While his role is not known at this time, I hope he takes it on; anything to get this man more recognition is fine by me.
Universal Pictures is set to release KONG: SKULL ISLAND in 3D and IMAX 3D on March 10, 2017.
Like her or not, Reese Witherspoon is a great actress; for real evidence to that statement you need look no further than Alexander Payne‘s ELECTION form 1999. It is being reported that she’s reuniting with Payne for his social satire DOWNSIZING. Back in November we told you that Matt Damon was attached to star in the story of a man, down on his luck, who decides he can have a better life if he undergoes a process to shrink himself.
The timing of the movie is dependent on Damon’s availability as the actor plans to shoot the next Bourne movie first. The film has been floating around for some time; back in 2009 Witherspoon was involved with Paul Giamatti and Sacha Baron Cohen. It sounds like an interesting, albeit bizarre, project for Payne whose last feature was the much lauded Nebraska, another gem for the record.
