I'm not sure how I've never gotten around to checking out BLACK DYNAMITE before, but it's clear that I'm going to have to remedy that, particularly if a sequel is indeed on the way. The blaxploitation action-comedy starred Michael Jai White as Black Dynamite, a gun-toting, nunchuck-wielding, ladies man, and soul brother. Michael Jai White has long hinted at a BLACK DYNAMITE sequel, and today, the actor posted a video on Twitter which seems to tease Black Dynamite's return.
When The Man murders his brother, pumps heroin into local orphanages, and floods the ghetto with adulterated malt liquor, Black Dynamite is the one hero willing to fight all the way from the blood-soaked city streets to the hallowed halls of the Honky House. The actor wouldn't confirmed whether this was indeed a teaser for his next film, only to say, "#staytuned." Michael Jai White has previously stated that he had imagined BLACK DYNAMITE as a trilogy.
What Byron [Minns] and I always intended is we always thought from the beginning of a trilogy, Black Dynamite being one of a trilogy that would occur in that time period that starred essentially the same cast. We have some really funny ideas of other movies that are in that real vibrant time period. We’re trying to decide which would be the next step to do in that trilogy.
White has also teased that a sequel could be a cross between BLAZING SADDLES and BUCK AND THE PREACHER, indicating a shift into the Western genre. Whatever happens, I'm going to need to check out the first BLACK DYNAMITE as soon as possible.
