There’s no denying that Hugh Jackman is a pretty damn good showman. So it’s fitting that he nabbed the role of P.T. Barnum for THE GREATEST SHOWMAN ON EARTH back in 2009.
A director has finally been hired for the project. Michael Gracey, who has done commercials as well as had his hand in some visual effects work will helm the film. The biopic will be a musical about the creator and showman who had a thing for one of his acts, Jenny “The Swedish Nightingale” Lind. The role of Lind was originally written for Anne Hathaway but the news does not mention her as being a part of the film.
The script was written by Jenny Bicks (SEX AND THE CITY). Jackman and producing partner John Palermo are producing with Laurence Mark (DREAMGIRLS).
Gracey was recently set to direct Disney’s new spin on Snow White, THE ORDER OF THE SEVEN.
