Two Mondays ago Michael Fassbender was deciding whether he would join Natalie Portman for upcoming western JANE GOT A GUN, and now he’s decided that he will. The film “centers on a woman who must ask an ex-lover for help in order to save her outlaw husband from a gang out to kill him,” with Fassbender playing the ex-lover.
JANE GOT A GUN mark Natalie Portman’s first starring role since 2010’s BLACK SWAN, while you can next catch Fassbender in Ridley Scott’s THE COUNSELOR and Steve McQueen’s 12 YEARS A SLAVE. Shooting for JANE GOT A GUN is set to begin in early 2013.
In other news of a nearly opposite nature, Fassbender is also set to join Domhnall Gleeson (Bill Weasly in HARRY POTTER, TRUE GRIT) for a comedy called FRANK about “a young wannabe musician, Jon (Gleeson), who discovers he’s bitten off more than he can chew when he joins an eccentric pop band led by the mysterious and enigmatic Frank (Fassbender).” The script is by Jon Ronson (the original book of THE MEN WHO STARE AT GOATS) and Peter Straughan (THE MEN WHO STARE AT GOATS, TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY), while the project as a whole is currently being shopped around at the Toronto International Film Festival. FRANK is on track to shoot later this year.
