Michael Fassbender can be seen this weekend in 12 YEARS A SLAVE (which has received rave reviews, including a 9/10 from JoBlo.com's Chris Bumbray), and while talking to The Daily Beast about the film, he gave an update on ASSASSIN'S CREED and opened up about why he got involved with the project. In the interview Fassbender admits to not being a gamer, but was intrigued by the plot from the video games.
That’s definitely happening. We’re just developing the script at the moment. I’d heard of it but had never played the game. I don’t have a video game player … that’s not what they’re called. [Laughs] I met up with the guys from Ubisoft and they told me the story behind it, and I thought it was very interesting—the idea of reliving memories.
Fassbender will be playing Desmond Miles, who in the games relives the memories of his ancestors with a device called the Animus. Michael Fassbender isn't just starring in the film though; Ubisoft has also made him a producer. Look, we all know the shitty track record for video game movies, but with someone like Michael Fassbender starring and producing the film, I'm pretty optimistic about ASSASSIN'S CREED. Although I haven't played the games, I'm aware of the story and think it could lend itself very well to a big screen adaptation.
ASSASSIN'S CREED will be in theaters on June 19th, 2015.
