In case you’ve missed all this before, THE COUNSELOR follows “a respected lawyer (Fassbender) who thinks he can dip a toe in to the drug business without getting sucked down. It is a bad decision and he tries his best to survive it and get out of a desperate situation.” Originally expected to be a novel, the Pulitzer Prize-winning writer instead turned in an original script to the surprise of his own reps. Scott jumped on it, went straight to his PROMETHEUS android – arguably the most interesting lead actor working in film today – and is now looking to potentially start production as early as May 1st.
So, who now is being looked at to spar with Fassbender as the film’s heavy? Last time a McCarthy villain was put to screen, it took the form of Javier Bardem (who incidentally walked away with a Best Supporting Actor Oscar). For THE COUNSELOR, Deadline is saying that Brad Pitt, Jeremy Renner, and Bradley Cooper are being considered for the part.
Wow. This one blossomed very quickly into a top tier project to look out for. What do you guys think? Who would make the most formidable opponent for Fassbender?
