On a remote Australian island in the years following World War I, lighthouse keeper Tom Sherbourne (Michael Fassbender) and his wife, Isabel (Alicia Vikander), discover a boat washed ashore carrying a dead man and a two-month old baby. Rescuing the infant, they make the decision to raise her as their own but the consequences of their choice prove to be devastating. Check out what’s in store for this couple in the first trailer!
Derek Cianfrance‘s previous work (BLUE VALENTINE, A PLACE BEYOND THE PINES) are among my favorite films in recent memory. While I’m not familiar with M.L Stedman’s novel of the same name, my first reaction to this trailer was that it looked like a Nicholas Sparks flick, albeit with some A-list actors. I’m willing to give the benefit of the doubt though, and am looking forward to checking this one out in theaters!
THE LIGHT BETWEEN OCEANS will open on September 2, 2016.
