Ever since the TRICK 'R TREAT sequel was announced two years ago, all has gone dark for the Halloween anthology. The original film, though terrific, wasn't treated very fairly by the distribution company when it was shunted away from theaters and received an ignominous home video release, so many fans were discouraged by lack of news. However, Michael Dougherty says, with quite a bit of confidence, that TRICK 'R TREAT 2 is "gonna happen."
In an interview about his film KRAMPUS, he said that production was pushed back due to his eagerness to get his Christmas horror flick out of the gates, but:
Thats not to say that Trick ‘r Treat has not been simmering in the background. I wanna get it right, I don’t wanna rush it.
Dougherty has stated previously that he intended for Sam to make a return and that witches would be making an appearance in one of the segments, but things may have changed in the years that followed. All we can hope is that, with all the time he's had to mull things over, he can pull out all the stops and delight us with something terrifying and fun.
In the meantime, Dougherty's holiday horrors haven't ceased. You can check out KRAMPUS in theaters on December 4th. Check out the full TRICK 'R TREAT 2 interview below!
