Michael Chiklis’ role on FX’s American Horror Story: Freak Show revealed

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Back in late March we learned that "The Shield" star Michael Chiklis was set to return to FX for the upcoming season of "American Horror Story: Freak Show", with our initial report sharing that Chiklis would be playing "the father to (Evan) Peters' character and ex-husband to (Kathy) Bates' character" for the fourth season of the hit series, this time revolving around a freak show in Jupiter, Florida in the 1950's. Now TVLine has learned a little more about Chiklis' character from executive producer Ryan Murphy, who shared that franchise virgin Michael Chiklis will be playing…

“…a strong man who’s married to Angela Bassett['s character]. He has scenes with Angela and Jessica Lange and [onscreen ex] Kathy Bates. I love the part because it’s really written to be quite vulnerable, which is something I think Michael does so well –  the strong man who’s vulnerable. I’m very excited to see [him] tussle with all those great ladies. And he’s really up for it, really excited about it.”

So what does Murphy mean by 'a strong man'? He doesn't elaborate, but considering the Freak Show setting it's likely that he'll be playing a performer in the titular Freak Show that performs feats of strength.

We previously learned that "AHS" alum Sarah Paulson would be playing a two-headed woman (named Bette and Dot, respectively, as seen below), and we're sure to learn more about all of the characters featured in the upcoming season soon enough.

We also know that the new season finds Jessica Lange playing a German ex-pat who is managing one of the last freak shows in the U.S. Her “unusuals” include Kathy Bates, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Angela Bassett, and Frances Conroy, who will play performers whom Lange’s character has rescued.
