Michael B. Jordan’s Val Zod series to be penned by Darnell Metayer & Josh Peters

It was reported earlier this year that Michael B. Jordan was developing a Superman project centered around the Val-Zod incarnation of the character. Jordan is producing the limited-series project for HBO Max through his Outlier Society banner and Deadline has now reported that they’ve found a pair of writers for the Val-Zod series.

Darnell Metayer and Josh Peters have signed on to pen the Val Zod series and are said to have an “unexpected take” on the character’s origin story. Val-Zod is a Kryptonian from Earth-2 whose parents were executed by the Kryptonian court and who took later on the mantle of Superman upon his arrival on Earth. Metayer and Peters recently worked on Transformers: Rise of the Beasts for Paramount Pictures, so the pair already have experience with blockbuster stories. As for who will play Val Zod, it’s been widely speculated that Michael B. Jordan will fill the role, but it’s not yet known if he’ll be playing the character at this time. If not Jordan, who would you like to see play Val Zod?

The Val Zod series isn’t the only Superman project in the works. It was announced earlier this year that J.J Abrams and Ta-Nehisi Coates were teaming up for a new Superman movie. Abrams will produce with Coates set to pen the script. “To be invited into the DC Extended Universe by Warner Bros., DC Films and Bad Robot is an honor,” Coates said. “I look forward to meaningfully adding to the legacy of America’s most iconic mythic hero.” In his own statement, Abrams added, “There is a new, powerful, and moving Superman story yet to be told. We couldn’t be more thrilled to be working with the brilliant Mr. Coates to help bring that story to the big screen, and we’re beyond thankful to the team at Warner Bros. for the opportunity.
