When Disney got the Star Wars machine running once again with Star Wars: The Force Awakens, just about every actor in Hollywood wanted a piece of the pie, and that includes Michael B. Jordan. The young actor was riding high off the success of Chronicle and Fruitvale Station, but while speaking on Just for Variety podcast with Marc Malkin, he said that his audition for The Force Awakens was his worst ever.
"It was probably the Star Wars audition that I had with J.J. [Abrams], I think," Jordan said. "It just wasn’t my best. It was probably my worst to date. I just couldn’t wrap my brain around some of the sides, because when you’re reading for these high-level projects, there’s never really any specificity in the sides. Everything's like super vague and everything's a secret. Reading it through, I just couldn’t connect it. Definitely bombed that one, for sure…I’m pretty sure I ran out of there." Although Michael B. Jordan may have bombed his Star Wars audition, it certainly didn't hurt his future as he went on to star in Creed and Black Panther.
Speaking of Creed, Michael B. Jordan is getting ready to start production on Creed III, which will also serve as his feature directorial debut. In a statement, Jordan said, "Directing has always been an aspiration, but the timing had to be right. ‘Creed III’ is that moment — a time in my life where I’ve grown more sure of who I am, holding agency in my own story, maturing personally, growing professionally, and learning from the Greats like Ryan Coogler, most recently Denzel Washington, and other top tier directors I respect. All of which sets the table for this moment. This franchise and in particular the themes of ‘Creed III’ are deeply personal to me. I look forward to sharing the next chapter of Adonis Creed’s story with the awesome responsibility of being its director and namesake." Creed III is slated to hit theaters on November 23, 2022.
