While production has already started on Fox's THE FANTASTIC FOUR there is little to no details on Josh Trank's (CHRONICLE) reboot. Kate Mara, who was cast as Sue Storm, said the plot for THE FANTASTIC FOUR won't be based on the comics, so not much to go by. We might see something from Hall H panel at this year’s Comic-Con but in the meantime Michael B. Jordan, who plays Johnny Storm/The Human Torch in the film, was asked about the upcoming reboot in a discussion with MTV and mentioned some interesting things about the project.
Jordan noted how the script has changed quite frequently during production:
“The script is evolving, [you make] on set decisions on the fly, things are always constantly changing. Me personally, I block out that extra noise and I focus on the job I have to do. It is an important film for all of us. We’re taking it seriously, taking a lot of risks. I think it’s going to pay off… As much as everybody thinks that these projects are cemented in years before, they’re not. There’s so many things that you just can’t account for. You know, you can try and plan as much as you want, but you get there on game day and you get thrown a curve ball, I guess, hey, the game plan goes out the window. You’ve got to adapt.”
He talked about Trank’s vision for the Marvel adaptation:
“Josh’s vision is very clear and he knows exactly what he wants, and he gives us room to adapt and to play. That’s what I kind of think sets us apart, is that this is going to be grounded and unconventional.”
Jordan also doesn’t see the Fantastic Four as superheroes:
“It’s not your typical superhero film, you know, we aren’t looking at this as like, being superheroes. We’re more or less a bunch of kids that had an accident and we have disabilities now that we have to cope with, and try to find a life afterwards – try to be as normal as we can.”
The more I hear about the movie, the more I have no idea what to expect. I keep picturing a lot of shaky cam and can already hear a lot of confident sarcasm from Miles Teller (he's good at that). Jordan is a great young actor (you must watch (FRUITVALE STATION) and it sounds like he has a lot of passion when it comes to THE FANTASTIC FOUR, let's hope it pays off. Might we see some footage next week? Stay with us as we cover the 2014 Comic-con and keep you in the know.
Jordan is joined by Jamie Bell, Kate Mara and Miles Teller who will play the titular four. Toby Kebbell will also appear as Victor Von Doom along with Reg E. Cathey as Dr. Franklin Storm and Tim Blake Nelson as Harvey Elder, aka The Mole Man.
THE FANTASTIC FOUR is set for release on June 19, 2015.
