Michael B. Jordan addresses rumors that he’ll be playing Superman

Last month, rumours began circling that Warner Bros. was looking to relaunch the SUPERMAN franchise and had been meeting with lots of high-profile talent to "help find a way to make Superman relevant to modern audiences." One person who Warner Bros. reportedly met with was Michael B. Jordan (JUST MERCY), who pitched the studio on his vision for the character. At the time, it was said that Jordan couldn't commit to the film as production was still several years out and he already has a full slate of projects, but while speaking with MTV News, Jordan commented on the rumours that he'll be suiting up as the Man of Steel.

Honestly, I've been rumored to play Morpheus, to Superman, to Duck Tales reboot, to Power Rangers, and everything in between. So it's like, I'm kinda used to rumors that I'm playing something. But, anything that I do dive in to has gotta be done the right way. It has to be full of authenticity.

"I'm a fan of comic books, you know?," Jordan continued. "I understand, you know, the fans being upset at, "Oh no, why are they changing this and why are they changing that?" I would feel the same way about certain things. So just know, if I ever were to dabble in anything, it would be authentic and something I feel like people would really support."

As we know, Warner Bros. hasn't always had the best of luck with the DCEU, but they seem to be on the verge of finding their footing thanks to successes like WONDER WOMAN and AQUAMAN, but it remains to see how much the future of the franchise will be changing. Henry Cavill has played Superman in MAN OF STEEL, BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE, and JUSTICE LEAGUE, but he's never really had opportunity to let the world see where his Superman was headed. Cavill has previously expressed disappointment on not getting to see more of the traditional Superman audiences were expecting, particularly after the character's neck-breaking moment in MAN OF STEEL.

We didn't get the opportunity to show the other side of it, the ‘I'm ready to be Superman now and I'm ready to show the world the best examples’. That's where the joy and glee comes from, and that sense of warmth from the character, which is his real superpower – he makes people believe in themselves. It was a shame because it would've been nice, and it would have been a lovely coupling with the seriousness and the depth of Man of Steel.

Michael B. Jordan can be seen in JUST MERCY, a legal drama which opened in theaters on December 25th.
