Deadline got the scoop on the latest casting news for Guillermo del Toro's THE STRAIN series for FX and it looks like BREAKING DAWN's Mia Maestro (below) is set to star opposite Corey Stoll in the upcoming TV adaptation. So far FX has done a fantastic job with the casting of Stoll and Kevin Durand and while I'm not all too familiar with her acting chops, I have no doubt that they have found the perfect leading lady in Maestro.
Carlton Cuse of BATES MOTEL is acting as showrunner on the pilot which will be directed by Guillermo del Toro himself from a script he co-wrote with Chuck Hogan. THE STRAIN formally has a pilot order but FX president John Landgraf has indicated it is being eyed for a series order.
THE STRAIN is a high-concept thriller that tells the story of Dr. Ephraim Goodweather (Stoll), the head of the Center for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City. He and his team are called upon to investigate a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism. As the strain spreads, Eph, his team, and an assembly of everyday New Yorkers wage war for the fate of humanity itself.
