Re-string your Ibanez and polish your spiked shoulder pads because Netflix has summoned a new Metal Lords trailer. Directed by Peter Sollett (Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist) and written by D.B. Weiss (Game of Thrones, The Three-Body Problem), Metal Lords is a coming-of-age comedy that explores band politics, teenage rebellion and melting faces with heavy metal as your weapon of choice.
Per Netflix, here is the official synopsis for Metal Lords to go along with the first images:
Two kids want to start a heavy metal band in a high school where exactly two kids care about heavy metal. Hunter (Adrian Greensmith) is a diehard metal fan who knows his history and shreds. His dream is to win the upcoming Battle of the Bands. He enlists his best friend Kevin (Jaeden Martell) to man the drums. But with schoolmates more interested in Bieber than Black Sabbath, finding a bassist is a struggle. Until Kevin overhears Emily (Isis Hainsworth) playing her cello. The motley crew must contend with school, parents, hormones, and teen angst while trying to get along long enough for Skullf*cker to win the Battle of the Bands.
Metal Lords also stars Joe Manganiello (True Blood, Magic Mike XXL), Brett Gelman (Stranger Things), Sufe Bradshaw (Veep, Murder Mystery), Katie O’Grady (Portlandia), and Michelle Mao (Surfside Girls), among others.
Produced by Greg Shapiro and D.B. Weiss, Metal Lords also has Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello serving as the film’s Executive Music Producer. David Benioff, Bernie Caufield, and Robin Fisichela executive produce.
Now that the Metal Lords trailer is here to assume a power stance online, I know that I’ll be tuning in for this one. In the vein of movies like School of Rock and Detroit Rock City, Metal Lords celebrates the metal genre by letting us olds know that the kids are going to be alright. While metal has changed in the years since I attended high school, it’s merely evolved into something more complex. I search the far corners of the internet for new music every day and enjoy seeing a musical genre I love represented on-screen. Thus, I will raise my horns on April 8 when Metal Lords raises its Goblet of Rock on Netflix.
