Metal Gear: The Movie

Sony has signed a deal to bring popular Konami videogame METAL GEAR SOLID to the big screen. The project has been in the works for some time and at the 2006 E3 convention creator Hideo Kojima said a film was underway and that a contract had been signed. Kojima was jumping the gun though as negotiations between Sony and Konami have continued since then with the deal only now becoming final. Michael De Luca (BOOGIE NIGHTS) is producing the film for Sony, which hopes the film can spwan a franchise. The video game franchise has been around since 1987 when it first debuted in Japan and was later adapted for the original Nintendo system. The game saw a comeback almost 10 years later when METAL GEAR SOLID, named after main character Solid Snake, debuted on Playstation One. There have been two sequels to SOLID and a fourth, “Guns of the Patriots” is due soon. No writer or director is attached to the film yet and it’s unclear how much creative control Konami and Kojima will have over the film.
